This is Growth Mindset Show. Welcome, Ganesh, to the show. This is after I took some time off, was traveling and other things
2:15
So welcome back to the show. I'm excited to have this show today. we have a lot of good thing going on here um with the community and other things here as well so
2:26
simon uh let's get this going you want to share the screen um my name is mahes chan i'm founder
2:33
of c-sharp corner i'm here outside of philadelphia so winter is here uh winter is full-fledged here
2:40
uh it's i think 30 degrees today so outside it's windy there's going to be a lot more
2:46
staying indoors these days um so yeah let's uh get this going so today's topic is less is more
2:55
and less is more is again as a part of growth mindset show we're always focusing on the growth
3:03
and how we get better day by day you know on different things you know doing different things
3:09
and mostly around productivity, growth in life, in professional life, get the things done faster
3:18
And today's topic is less is more, as you can guess. Less is more
3:23
So that's where in the end of this show, I'm going to share five of my tips that makes my life easier
3:33
And if I do less, I get more out of it. How cool is that
3:37
You do less and you get more results. out is that cool so i will share five my tips as uh as some of you may already know um this show is
3:49
for you if feel free to chime in post your comments share what you think thoughts are what you like
3:55
dislike uh anything you want to share on the show um just feel free to post comment on youtube
4:03
Facebook or wherever you're joining us from. So, yes. So, all right
4:09
Let's see if I can do my screen. There you go. All right. So, I have a new slide feature here in the StreamYard now
4:17
Cool. Thank you, StreamYard, for giving us this new feature where I can control my own slides
4:24
So, first time in two years, I traveled. um but we what not last week week before that i traveled to las vegas as you can see from this
4:37
uh it was good travel was fine obviously uh people are wearing masks
4:43
um on the planes and also inside the buildings and so on and so forth but it was a good travel
4:49
i had some business meetings and i have a couple of conferences to attend in vegas overall uh good
4:57
to get going there, get moving. And now I'm going again tomorrow, actually. I'm flying to
5:05
Miami for another conference. So that means conferences start kicking out and start meeting in person
5:13
and so on and so forth. There's another news came on COVID
5:17
variant. New COVID variant is supposed to be out there and that's
5:21
more dangerous. So we will see how things go. But we are thinking about
5:27
doing the live in person conference in C Sharp Corner Annual Conference
5:33
and working with hotels to come up with some dates. Unfortunately, dates
5:39
don't look so favorable for us right now. So Simon is working on
5:43
those. Maybe Simon has an update on that. So we have another
5:49
.NET conference coming up in January. Simon, you want to share something
5:53
so .NET conference is coming up in January and that's going to cover .NET 6
6:00
that's exciting, Microsoft just announced .NET 6 earlier this month with C sharp 10, F sharp, I think F sharp 6
6:09
so there's a lot of coverage coming on that so if you work with C sharp and .NET
6:16
.NET 6 want to learn what new things are there we will be that will be the main focus of this conference it's a virtual conference
6:25
it's in january so check out the conference url.net conference.com so that's the next conference actually coming up it will be virtual for now
6:39
all right so after vegas trip um i i came home and i got this cool goodies uh from simon so they
6:50
are right here so i got a note handwritten note that looks like uh got this notes and written
6:56
note you can read it uh this was awesome uh great uh great card i like it it has stratus on it
7:06
thank you stratus for sponsoring the conference this side it has your corner and the envelope
7:12
has sponsors oh cool and very well thought very well planned got some as your stickers
7:22
i don't know if microsoft is allowed to use those stickers not i'm not going to use it anyway
7:29
but thank you for the stickers i sure somebody use it and i don want to put on my anything Why are you using the sticker Oh okay Whatever We got some cool goodies from Stratus
7:44
Keychain. So in the US, we don't really use keychain. Nobody does really these days
7:53
Maybe some do. I don't. My key is usually in my pocket with nothing on it
7:58
But this is cool. I'm sure some people find it very useful
8:02
And then I got this is very useful right here. Definitely charger where I can charge multiple things, especially
8:10
Yeah, the different couple of this is useful, actually, for chargers from the from the laptop
8:17
I always need this. So great. Thank you, Simon and the team
8:21
Atul Gupta and everybody who worked hard on. Excuse me. So, yeah, since I came from Vegas, I think I have a little cold
8:31
it's been well not sure what's going on I did go with check it's negative
8:37
and then the last thing we're not done yet this is a cool little trophy and with
8:46
the as you or summit or cloud summit now you call it it has a C-sharp corner and
8:52
stress logo on it this is cloud summit and personalized very personalized with
8:58
the name awesome that's great i'm sure i love it i'm sure most of the speakers they they love it
9:04
and put in their you know showcase so that was cool um good stuff let's move to the next slide
9:16
all right so there's more excitement basketball action is back now i mean it's been back for a
9:24
while um my son's team they won a championship so that was good to see awesome and uh it was fun
9:33
and then first time i saw a team score 110 points in high school game that was amazing fireworks
9:39
fireworks a lot of three pointers uh yes simon's handwriting is definitely superb as i said everybody
9:47
if you're joining us from wherever you're joining us from let us know where you're joining us from
9:52
what you like, dislike, you know, in the show. You learn anything from the show
10:00
We're trying to cut the show down to, you know, half an hour because we thought one hour is pretty long for some people
10:07
So, yeah, just if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask any kind of questions here
10:13
No question is a bad question. So, yeah, first time saw high school game 110 points
10:21
So high school games are usually these games were 32 minutes. So in 32 minutes, 100 points, 10 points, a lot of points
10:30
Fun part, fun part. All right. So here is a big news right here
10:37
Yesterday, not last night, night before, C Sharp Corner organizing an event at GL Bajaj's Institute of Technology and Management
10:47
It's in NOEDA. one of it's pretty uh pretty good college i would say um and with the stratus we launched an r d
10:57
center at the college in c-sharp corner stress combined launch in r d center and the purpose of
11:05
the center really is what what i'm finding is that there's a lot of blockchain work is happening and
11:11
cryptocurrency is happening i'm working on several projects now companies now it's hard to find
11:18
blockchain developers i mean in general it's hard to find all kind of developers
11:23
um but blockchain is even harder because uh it's hard for even young students to know learn these
11:29
concepts it's a little complicated than just you know learning programming it's more than programming
11:34
right you have to know programming obviously but you have to learn no certain other things as well
11:39
so what we did is we we uh partnered with this college and they opened this r&d center but one
11:46
thing we are doing is we are also launching a curriculum in there I think for the fifth semester
11:51
of their master's MCA program. Details have still yet to come. What does that mean is that
11:58
in their degree program, they are going to learn Stratus Blockchain. So when they graduate
12:05
and while they're learning Stratus Blockchain in college, we are actually going to work with
12:11
them on some projects. So that'll be cool. So by the time they graduate, they will already
12:16
know how to you know write code and build blockchain applications using threads so that
12:23
was pretty cool it was in-person event it was good to see a lot of people in person
12:28
um so yeah that was fun um the event was at night here around midnight so that was good i'm sure if
12:37
you follow social media you saw probably some posts there um so that was those were some updates
12:46
so now let's talk about the topic today's topic is less is more um oh looks like you can see all
12:54
the my my tips here they were supposed to be not they were supposed to be hidden here for some
13:00
and i want you to actually chime in and tell me if you're agreeing with that or disagreeing or
13:07
you have more tips i want to hear your tips too these are just my tips right you may have your
13:12
own thing what makes you better how you do you become productive how do you you know optimize
13:18
your time so let's start with this less is more and most of them are really really my personal
13:26
experience okay uh so it's really um that's where i you know personally i learn i practice and i
13:35
share this so let's start with tip number one spend less time on social media
13:42
That's my favorite. Average people, as you know, spend three plus time or three plus hours each day on social media and other similar apps
13:54
That's a lot of time. That's like I calculated and I think I wrote somewhere or shared
14:00
It's like eight years of your life. Think about it. So you have 24 hours in a day
14:07
Out of that, you know, you end up sleeping seven, eight hours in a day
14:11
So that's because your one third is gone. So now you only have what left
14:17
16 hours, right? Out of 16 hours, I'm sure, you know, six to eight hours goes to work
14:24
So now you only have eight hours left. Out of that eight hours now, out of that eight hours now
14:33
if you spend three hours on your social media, that's a lot of time you're spending on social media
14:41
unless it's work unless it's productive unless it's making you helping you in some kind of growth
14:47
personal professional business whatever if you're using as a tool that's great definitely use it and
14:53
that's supposed to be the best use of it but if you are just using it to waste time right that's
14:59
a lot of time it's been good to see you back here uh ganesh yes uh i'm glad you like these tips so
15:09
there is some you know you got to evaluate your time you know most of us you know we look at our finances we look at our bank accounts we look at our monthly expenses and budget things out
15:21
But we don't budget our time. So you have to also, it's very important to budget our time to see where are we spending our time
15:29
Because that's really what can make you move faster from point A to B in your, you know, career
15:37
Is where and how you spend your time. right so think of this way when you you know you have time every you know not every day but
15:47
once in a week or maybe sometimes some people do every day every day for five minutes they
15:52
if they evaluate your day in the end of the day so before sleeping or whenever at late okay what
15:59
did i do today how where did i spend my time today okay i worked i went to dinner i did lunch
16:06
I watch this TV but what else there is there any time where you said you know what that was not a
16:13
good time you know it's fine to watch TV when you're relaxing but if you are on social media
16:19
it's not really relaxing most social media is actually it affects in a negative way if you are
16:26
not being productive you read other people's stuff then you start you know questioning yourself you
16:34
just your mind start thinking too much stuff right so that's how you it's not really relaxing
16:41
social media actually increases anxiety why does it do that you have ever thought like why social
16:48
media increase anxiety and all that it's because it's not real right people don't stuff real I mean
16:56
they do some but most of the time social media we post stuff only like how cool things are how
17:04
great life our life is going nobody really puts uh you know true stuff out there people today
17:12
are more interested in sharing their lunch or dinner photos on social media and then worry
17:23
about how many likes they are getting if they don't get likes you start scrolling your phone
17:28
like what's going on rather than force focusing and enjoying your food you're focused during the
17:34
now you're eating your food is there you're ignoring the food you don't even pay attention
17:38
food you're just checking oh how many people like picture of my food so that's pretty much useless
17:44
to me you know it's like but hey again we live in a social revolution that's what people are right
17:50
now they you know right now social is gone so anyway i don't want to make a big deal out of it
17:56
but at least think about it like how much time you are spending is it really useful
18:00
if it's useful then sure go ahead keep doing it that's great all right so that was my number tip
18:07
what do you think about my number one tip do you guys agree disagree do you think i'm going
18:12
overboard on social media um so yeah i want to hear from you number two speak less and learn
18:21
more right so i mean most people in tech they speak less in general but once in a while you'll
18:27
see one guy you meet in a meeting an event and i do all the time i've run you know in any conference
18:33
i go there's one or two guys all they do is talk talk talk talk talk talk and they're trying to
18:39
sell themselves they think that more they talk more other people will like them or understand
18:45
how great they are but uh it's it's actually a not a good thing as really it's a reverse
18:51
psychology here if you talk less and listen more chances are you learn more that's that's how it
18:59
is right so only way to learn is to listen right it's not speak when you're speaking something
19:05
you're saying something you already know that you're just repeating yourself right when we talk
19:11
to somebody we say things a lot we are saying things we already know so it's like repeating
19:17
ourselves we don't learn anything the only way we learn is when we don't talk and listen or read
19:24
so think about that and i'm not saying these points are right or wrong some points may work
19:31
for you some points may not work for you some points you may like and you don't like this
19:35
and just let me know what you think but these are some things that they work for me so i'm sharing
19:40
with my tips so less thinking about others right this is my favorite point like why do we care what
19:48
other people do unless they are affecting our lives that's just the important part sometimes
19:55
we think too much about things they don't matter to us basically we are spending our time thinking
20:01
about things they don't matter to us so for example if my neighbor is doing something who
20:09
cares why should i be thinking about him he's not paying my bills he's not helping me anything
20:13
so why do i care right so and then a lot of people that's what they do they spend time about
20:22
talking about you know i'm i will have talked to some friend and out of seven they start talking
20:27
about other friends how they're doing what blah blah like do i how is it helping me i don't care
20:34
all I'm doing is wasting my time talking about somebody else which I have nothing to do
20:39
so unless you're talking about people you know your friends your family your kids and if you're
20:47
talking about them and you can help them then that makes sense right that makes sense but if
20:52
there's somebody ABC out there just why do I really care why do you want to talk about those
20:59
people or even things right that don't matter to you so less talking and thinking about others
21:08
will give you more time to think about yourself and do other things um so this is these are just
21:17
things we do every day you know that's how it is and do you even wonder let me ask you this
21:22
and see if you can anybody can reply that i'm not gonna ask for that uh do you do you do do you really um
21:33
yeah that's a good comment right there i agree i agree i'm just yeah the point is i'm making is
21:41
that if you're already doing you're helping social media you're that's great that's how it
21:46
should be right uh but what i'm talking about is most people do and that's a trend it's not
21:52
Business people are smart. So people who are successful in life, they are smart. The reason they are successful is they already know how to use these tools
22:04
Successful people already know how to use these tools. That's why they're successful. So point this is about the people who are, you know, they're trying to be successful. They want to get to the level where they call themselves successful. That's the point I'm making
22:22
so yeah i was thinking about that why do we think about other people do you ever wonder why do we
22:29
think about other people do you ever wonder why we always want to tell that how great we're doing
22:35
do you ever wonder why we always want to show that how smart we are how good you know we are
22:44
better than everybody else in general i not and again i not saying everybody but mostly answer me I want to see if you can answer me then I come back to this point
22:58
Alright so so far so good. We covered three of my tips. Let's go to the fourth one. Keep less clutter in your
23:08
mind. That's again it's similar to the first one. I mean third one. So our mind if you can start
23:16
thinking that our mind is like a computer right if our mind is like a computer less applications we
23:23
run less background threads we run more cleaner it is better way more you can think about it right
23:31
so sometimes we are running certain things let's say i don't know you have a fight with a friend
23:36
or a co-worker or your spouse or something happened and you just keep inside yourself
23:42
that's not good that's not healthy you are still thinking about that you're still your brain is
23:50
actually engaged in doing that certain activity even though your actions are not showing you are
24:00
mad at somebody for example and you don't resolve that so regardless of what your brain is still
24:08
processing the data and the background it's like a background thread is running taking your memory
24:13
resources your cpu resources and your hard drive it's same right so best ways to resolve those
24:21
issues have less clutter running in your mind that's the best way and you'll feel better after
24:27
you talk about it um it could be anybody's fault but once you talk about it if you're mad at
24:33
somebody just let it out and that's what you know we talk to the psychologist and psychiatrist that's
24:39
what they say you can talk to somebody about certain things and once you talk about these
24:44
things what it does is that the background thread is now closed one less application running in your
24:53
brain that means you will feel better and you also have more time to focus on other things
24:59
does that make sense uh relation of brain with computer what do you think about um
25:06
yeah so that's a good point too that you know uh we need to yeah we need we can compare to yeah so
25:14
this is like a uh this is a big deal in the indian culture right so i grew up in indian culture too
25:21
even your parents always tried to tell you like oh look at he has a car you don't have a car he has
25:26
the house you don't have a car that's the worst thing i think you can do compare is great but i
25:32
don't think comparison really matters as long as you are focusing on yourself definitely that's a
25:37
good point and good tip people who focus on themselves and don't compare with others are
25:42
always you will see they're always happy and healthy and in their own words they are successful
25:48
right because they don't really care um i 100 agree with that um um and everybody's different
25:56
right somebody's sure you can't really compare often we usually compare with some people who are
26:04
who have more than us in terms of you know wealth money fame whatever else so um
26:11
So anyway, good point. Very good point, guys. All right. So we have four more minutes to go, three more minutes to go
26:19
So my last tip is less things around. It gives you more focus. This is my personal trip
26:25
Like if you look at my office or my work table, you will only find two, three things there unless I'm doing a show
26:33
You will not find anything. Just one laptop. That's it. I don't like to have
26:38
100 things around me and surrounded by like looks like a spaceship
26:45
where a million things going on so personally it works for me
26:50
I like to focus one thing at a time I don't do a million things together
26:54
I don't do like oh I'm jumping here jumping here talking to this if I like to do things then that's how I get
27:00
my work done is I don't have things around me even on the desk I will not have a paper
27:06
um so that's kind of you know it gives me more focus so maybe you know if you have you think
27:14
your best is to clutter you know maybe try to see if this thing works for you so with that said
27:22
i think those were my five tips less is more on the topic uh and then next week i'm gonna come up
27:29
with some other topic let's see what it is i don't know yet i'm gonna work on it maybe on the plane
27:36
coming back from Miami. With that said, that concludes our topic. If you have any questions
27:43
feel free to post here. We are here a couple of more minutes, but I want you to go back
27:48
to our conference, right? So in January, we have .NET conference coming up
27:54
And then we are still thinking about, we don't know exact dates
27:58
for the C Sharp Corner Annual Conference. It's still going to be in Delhi
28:03
We are not changing the venue. I know there was a lot of some discussions on Twitter and social media about that
28:09
We are still going to do in Delhi. And now you'll say, why do we do in Delhi all the time
28:14
Why not Bangalore? Why not Pune? There's so many people out there. Why not Ahmedabad
28:19
Well, the biggest challenge with us is that being a community, that these conferences really don't make money
28:26
We do get some sponsorship. That's nothing. That doesn't even cover the cost
28:31
But doing local in Delhi is, we have enough people to work there
28:35
so we don't have to pay for them, right? So we have literally, you know
28:39
50, 100 people if need to. They can help us organize all these conferences
28:44
events, speakers, driving them around. It's just we have more resources. That's number one
28:48
Number two, we have partnered with these hotels. Leela Hotel is great
28:53
They give us really good discounted rates. So they don't increase rates every year
28:57
It's just we have a relationship. We keep it booking in advance, so on and so forth
29:01
So those are two major reasons for us to move these conference in-person conferences from Delhi to anywhere else and I hope it makes
29:10
sense for everybody. I also great to see I have I loved to see that some in-person chapter events
29:18
are start coming together I saw indoor guys are going to start in person events that's great to
29:25
see and I hope this COVID doesn't create a problem this new variant if it doesn't then we'll probably
29:33
see more of these in-person chapter events so with that said looks like we don't have any more
29:39
questions i will uh close this uh today's growth mindset show hopefully uh you learned something
29:47
and thank you so much for spending time with me on this friday i will see you next week thank you
30:03
Thank you
